A very crazy city..

Bangkok is the name that was given by foreigners,  Many Thais call it Krung Thep.

Its real name is the longest place name in the world.

Krungthepmahanakhon Amornrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharat Ratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amornphiman Awa-tarnsatthit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit.

Translated from Thai it is..

The Capital City of Angels, The Residence of The Emerald Buddha, The Great City of Impregnable, The Gracefulness of the city is steadfast and thriving, The Grand Capital which is abundant with The Nine Noble Gems, it is a Pleasant Capital, The City is abounding with the enormous Royal Palaces that resembles as the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated God, Home of the Gods Incarnate, which was Erected by Vishnu at Indra’s Behest.

Traffic in Bangkok

Thailand's Transport Department reported yesterday they expect traffic in Bangkok and surrounding areas to worsen this year . Great news for the millions of people who already spend up to four hours a day sitting in Bangkok's world-famous traffic jams. The main reason is an expected increase in the number of cars bought, which leaves me asking what's wrong with your average Thai that they'd rather spend hours sitting in traffic in a car they "own" than minutes on the sky train or underground?

Traffic is so bad in Bangkok now many Thais, if they start work at 8am, will leave home at 6am and arrive at work an hour early, rather than leave at 6:30 am and arrive at work late. Getting home is a nightmare, in almost every area of the city, as traffic begins to back up before 3pm and by 6pm is at an absolute standstill.

With increased traffic also comes increased pollution. Bangkok is already one of the world's most polluted cities, (another thing Thai governments have said they'd "fix" but little has been done). In fact, if you spend enough time in Bangkok don't be surprised if you develop breathing problems, asthma, allergies -- any number of pollution-related medical problems.

Soon after being elected in July, 2011, Yingluck, announced a tax rebate for first-time car buyers. Why? To help automobile manufacturers (namely the Japanese, one of Thailand's biggest trading partners) sell more cars. That this would worsen traffic on Bangkok's roads and make the city even more polluted....

Amazing Thailand....Today was a hard day on the bike, 420kms and nearly 6 hours of riding. But it started off so well, I left the hotel, set the GPS and 20 minutes later I am at the start of the Tollway.....Ah but then they tell me no motorbikes on Toll road...So for those of you who don't ride a motorbike or who have never been to Bangkok....it's a hell place to drive even when you know where you are going, Its not a place for the faint hearted. So I asked a taxi guy, "Phuket", but no english so he simply pointed and mimed to go over a bridge.. OK lets see what happens, but there were four bridges so I crossed them all and realised I was very lost. As I sat looking at my phone, a young girl rode by, stopped and said "where you go". I said Phuket, she said "Ok follow"..so I did. I have no idea where we were or where we were going, at one stage we drove down the wrong side of the road against the traffic, following about 20 other bikes. It was mad, then we drove through a little food area, down a couple of tiny roads and all of a sudden I see the sign for "Phetchaburi" which is my road...I said thank you and offered her some money, she just shook her head, waved and drove off......Amazing Thailand...

The first time I rode into Bangkok on the bike this is what greeted me. One of the largest protests in history with many roads blocked or closed. I ended up paying a motorbike taxi 100Baht to take me to Sukhumvit (one of the main roads in Bangkok). he led me through some crazy places, down the wrong way on streets etc but we got there and i was able to get to my hotel.\

There are many places to relax & unwind in Bangkok....
